Fruit For Thought

What would it be like if fruits could describe themselves in a rhythmic way?

This article tries to answer this question, for I have created five poems which each describe five different types of fruit. As the title suggests, I have called the following series of poems, 'Fruit For Thought'.

Try and guess which fruit is being described.

Now. Please. Sit back, grab a piece of fruit and enjoy the read.

Fruit #1

I am one of your five a day.

Take a bite out of me and you are greeted with a crunch.

You can have me as part of your breakfast, or you can have me as part of your lunch.

But do not have too many of me, for I am just a quick munch.

I can be green or sometimes red, you can eat me whole or slice me up instead.

I am round and lightweight, about the size of a tennis ball.

To those who hate me, I taste revolting. To those who love me, I taste incredible.

Allow me to rot, and I become inedible.

Eat me frequently and I will most certainly lower your cholesterol.

- Emmanuel Nnaji

Fruit #2

I am one of your five a day.

If you wish to eat me, you must peel me... otherwise you can't.

I very rarely grow straight and narrow, I am often bent over at a slant.

To those who hate me, I taste diabolical. To those who love me, I taste lovely.

I am eaten by humans, giraffes, gorillas and monkeys.

If you allow me to rot I will smell rancid and look incredibly ugly.

And once I am in this state there is no going back, there is no recovery.

Many people consume me before a workout, because I give them energy.

It has also been said that I can help improve concentration and memory.

I am yellow in colour, like cheese or lemons.

Peeling me is not a bother, it takes less that 3.5 seconds.

- Emmanuel Nnaji

Fruit #3

I am one of your five a day.

The colour I am is the fruit I am... interesting I know.

I can be found in tropical and subtropical trees, for this is where I grow.

My tree can take up to 3 years to produce me, which is undeniably slow.

I am usually made into a juice drink, indeed I am refreshing.

Many fizzy drink companies have named a flavour after me for they know I am a blessing.

Similarly to the previous fruit, you must also peel me to eat me. But that is not my only use.

Many use me with a juicer, for they know I produce juice.

My smell is quite memorable, like peppermint tea.

I am high in many vitamins, but mainly Vitamin C.

- Emmanuel Nnaji

Fruit #4

I am one of your five a day.

What fruit am I? Allow me to give you a clue.

My name is often used to describe the shape of a voluptuous woman. Yes, that there is true.

My juice will make your hands sticky... sticky like glue.

Similarly to the first fruit mentioned, I also have a core.

I may not be found in a small shop, but I will be found in a supermarket store.

Take a small bite out of me, and it will leave you wanting more.

Take a big bite out of me, and my juice will start to pour.

I am a pleasure to eat... far from a chore.

I'm sure when you eat me, I will become a fruit that you most certainly adore.

But make sure when you eat me, I am ripe and not raw.

And if indeed you believe I am ripe, just make sure you are sure.

- Emmanuel Nnaji

Fruit #5

I am one of your five a day.

My smell is very strong. Like metal poles or a bamboo.

I can be found in lemonade, baked cakes or even in shampoo.

People do not eat me by myself, for my taste is too bitter.

Take a bite out of me, your taste buds will reject me and your teeth will begin to jitter.

I wouldn't say I am oval, but I wouldn't say I'm round.

Sprinkling me on other fruits prevents them from turning brown.

Make a baby take a bite out of me, and they will make a funny face.

It is not advisable to take a bite of me, because I have a funny taste.

You can slice me, dice me and cut me into shapes.

I believe I am best served with some ice, in a glass filled with lemonade.

Lime is my sibling... in fact, we are practically the same.

The only thing that seperates us, is our colour and our name.

- Emmanuel Nnaji

Which poem was your favourite... 1,2,3,4 or 5?

Originally I was going to call this piece 'One of your five a day' but I felt 'Fruit For Thought' was a better fit, as you somewhat have to think about which fruit is being described.

Thank you for reading!

Stay safe. Stay blessed. Work hard. Don't stress.
